DIAL is the only pan-disability telephone support service in Cornwall, serving the needs of disabled people, families, carers and professionals across the full range of disability-related issues.
DIAL is available 5 days per week, between 10am and 3pm and is staffed by three professionally qualified independent living advisers, who are supported by two volunteers. Clients who need extra support can make an appointment to see an adviser at monthly outreach appointments in Bodmin, Hayle, Helston and Truro.
DIAL provides holistic assessments of need, with the emphasis very much on supporting and empowering individuals to exercise choice and control over their lives and achieve positive outcomes for themselves, their families and the wider community.
DIAL can help with:
Welfare Benefit entitlement, including eligibility, applications and appeals
- Liaising with agencies on your behalf
- Information about accessing support at home, including Social Care, Personal Budgets and Direct Payments
- Referrals and signposting to support groups and organisations
- Social and leisure opportunities
- Education, training, volunteering and employment
- Rights and discrimination
DIAL is part of the Safe Places Scheme. We help people deal with any distressing incident that takes place in the community, such as bullying, harassment or being unsure of how to deal with a situation. If requested, DIAL will report any incident to the police on behalf of a person, or anonymously, if preferred
DIAL provides community talks to local groups and attends awareness-raising events throughout the county
DIAL is affiliated to DIAL UK and holds the Community Legal Standard (CLS) quality mark.
(Due to high demand for our services, DIAL can be very busy at times. If all advisers are taking other calls, we have an answering machine for clients to leave their details for a call back. We aim to respond to calls within one working day, wherever possible).
